Medical Van

The New York City Department of Homeless Services has asked the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Community Services to conduct testing in homeless shelters as part of our continuing service during COVID19 pandemic using the NEC ACS Medical Van.

The Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Community Services Director, Pastor Mario Augustave and Dr. Alicia Massop-Flowers will be working with Molly Park, First Deputy Commissioner, NYC Department of Homeless Shelters and her office as they serve the homeless community. Contracting the the virus is still a very real threat to our society and especially to those who are living without a home and proper hygiene supplies, facilities and routines. By providing these services to the homeless population they will be able to receive testing using the NEC ACS medical van. This van is outfitted with safety supplies, masks, gloves and operated by volunteer nurses, doctors and lay members. The overall desire is to slow the spread of the virus and also let those in need know that they are cared for in a tangible way.

As an agency comprised of 2,000 employees, with an annual operating budget of approximately $1 billion, DHS is one of the largest organizations of its kind committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City.
